Proximate Composition and Consumption Constraints of Edible Forest Insects in Three Local Government Areas of Cross River State, Nigeria

Proximate composition and consumption constraints of edible forest insects was studied within ten months. Data on protein, lipid, carbohydrate, crude fibre moisture contents obtained by collecting insect’s samples from households in Akamkpa, Obubra Ogoja Cross River State taken to the laboratory analyzed. The data generated subjected different vigorous processes using approved methods. through administration questionnaire respondents. Results reveal that protein content (19.8%) highest termites lowest yam beetles (16.5%). carbohydrates (17.6%) ground cricket oil palm grub (6.3%). Lipid (18.6%) grasshopper (15.1%). Ash were (16.8 18.6%) termites, respectively, (14.1%) (13.4%). Fibre locust Consumption study area is however constrained seasons as indicated three locations where carried out. Therefore, due their high lipid content, grubs should be considered important delicacies for man’s basic nutritional challenges encourage food sufficiency.
